Winchester Speedway, 04/26/08 Results
While track conditions were less than optimal due to mechanical problems with both of the track's watering trucks late in the day, Shannon Davis made the most of his qualifying time trial to start on the front row for Round Two of the Six Pack Shootout Series. Jerry Ashley actually gained the pole position after qualifying and the random pill draw at intermission to determine the starting lineup for the top six. It was soon discovered, however, that Jerry would not be able to make the starting lineup due to engine failure, thus placing Shannon on the pole. Shannon was challenged the whole race by Daniel Miller, but Shannon never looked back as he led all 30 laps of the Six Pack Shootout feature event. Daniel Miller came home in second and Round One's winner, David Brannon came in third after drawing a six and starting from the sixth place position. David also won the Hard Charger Award presented by Jackie's Fast
Tax Service. The heat race winner, Mark Haddon, finished fourth and Steve Garner finished fifth.
The action continued with the Cumberland Drywall Materials sponsored 2 Barrel/Crate Late Model class. Billy Harris from Flintville, TN in the Billy Jones owned machine took the checkered flag with Mark Haddon and Dwayne Waid finishing second and third. Newcomers Matthew Summers and Johnny Hill both had good runs finishing fourth and fifth. Dwayne Waid and Billy Harris were your heat race winners.
The Modified Open Wheel class saw some good action with five cars entering the event. Just as Daniel Miller and Shannon Davis battled it out in the Super Late Model event, they continued to do the same in the Modified Open Wheel feature event. The outcome would be slightly different in this race, though. Daniel Miller came out on top with the checkered flag with Mark Haddon and Shannon Davis rounding out the top three. Shannon Davis was the heat race winner.
The Trophy Shop sponsored Modified Street class continued to grow as night went on. Several Pure Stock entrants decided to try their hand at competing in the Modified Street class since several regulars were absent. First-timer Jarrod Waid made his presence felt as he took his first victory at Winchester Speedway in 2008. Josh Bondurant and Scott Blackwell raced to second and third, respectively. Josh Bondurant was the heat race winner.
The Hanger Hardwood sponsored Outlaw Pony class kept its excitement alive, as it has been of the best racing classes all year. It looked early on as if no one would beat Clyde Petty in the #43. However, Clyde would succumb to mechanical trouble and have to leave the track. After Clyde departed the track, Roland McKelvie became the dominant force and led the rest of the way to take home the checkered flag. Brad Sain and Colten Roberts finished second and third, respectively. Clyde Petty was the heat race winner.
Dewayne Hicks once again dominated the Cumberland Bail Bonding sponsored Pure Stock class. Dewayne won for the second time in as many weeks. Scott Blackwell challenged Dewayne early on for the lead but was no match for Dewayne on this night. Stacy Scott from Morrison, TN had a good run finishing second. Josh Edwards from Fayetteville, TN also had a good night finishing third. Scott Blackwell was the heat race winner.
In the Neal's Body Shop sponsored Mini Stock class, Mike Norman claimed his first victory of the young 2008 season. Decherd's John Perry finished while Winchester's Jim Summers finished third. John Perry was the heat race winner.
The racing action continues Saturday May 3, 2008 with all classes in action. This Saturday, children age 12 and under will get in free with a paying adult age 18 and over to try and help families out who want to watch good racing during these difficult economic times.
