Saturday, April 5 racing program at Volunteer Speedway canceled due to rain
BULLS GAP, Tenn. — The season-opening points night of racing scheduled for Saturday, April 5 at Volunteer Speedway has been canceled due to significant rainfall received around the East Tennessee region over the last couple of days.
"I'm not complaining about the rain we've been receiving over the past few weeks, because with the drought conditions the region experienced last summer we need all the rainfall we can get," said track owner Joe Loven. "But this makes the third time so far this season we've had to cancel racing programs due to inclement weather. I was really hoping we'd be able to race Saturday night, but it rained pretty hard on Thursday. I've been at the track today (Friday) working inside the new concession/office building and it's really poured down, further soaking the ground. It's rained very hard.
"From what the National Weather Service is predicting, additional rain is expected to continue falling overnight into mid-morning Saturday," said Loven while shaking his head. "Everything's just a muddy mess. It seems we can't catch a break with the weather so far this year. One thing's for certain though, none of us can control the weather. We'll just try again next week, and hopefully the weather will cooperate with us. That's all we can do."
A five division racing program featuring "Gateway Ford" Super Late Model, Fastrak Racing Series-sanctioned "Courtesy Chevrolet" Crate Late Model, IMCA Open Wheel Modified, "Rusty Wallace Toyota" Hobby Stock and Mini Stock action is scheduled for next Saturday, April 12. The racing program will be presented by Appalachian Cycle of Kingsport.
The pit gate will open Saturday, April 12 at 4 p.m. and the grandstand gate at 5 p.m. Drivers' meeting will take place at 6:15 p.m. Hotlaps are tentatively scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m., to be followed by qualifying at 7:30 p.m., with feature racing getting the green flag around 8:30 p.m.
Adult grandstand admission $8, youth (ages 10-15) $4, children 9-and-under admitted free in the grandstands when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes and backside tier-parking $25 for all ages.
