Weaver Takes Another at North Georgia
CHATSWORTH, Ga. (May 2) Crossville, Tenn. hot shoe Randy Weaver has made the trip to North Georgia Speedway twice this season and both times he has taken the winners share of the Late Model purse back to Tennessee. This time Weaver held off defending Late Model champion Gary McPherson to take the win at the third mile clay oval Friday night over a strong 17 car field.
Leading every lap of the 30-lap Late Model feature Weaver would have McPherson waiting in the wings for that one misstep. The misstep that would have given McPherson the opportunity he needed to take the lead and his first win of the season never came.
While Weaver and McPherson were holding down the top spots Kevin Gibson, Todd Morrow, Robert Gant and a hard charging Ronnie Johnson were battling for position. When the checked flag fell it was Gibson, Johnson and Morrow finishing third, fourth and fifth. Rounding out the top 10 were Robert Gant, Randy Burrows, Derek Ellis, Paul Hollander and Lee Sutton.
With 24 Limited/Crate/Sportsman cars on hand for their 20-lap feature it was anybody's guess who would take home first place money. When the green flag fell, Rick Hixson set sail with Trigg Parris in tow it looked like a replay of last week's feature. When the checkered flag fell it was a replay of last week with Hixson taking he win and Parris coming in second. Craig Burrows was third, Daven Dilbeck was fourth and Allen Green fifth.
In Hobby action Greg Ledford led all 15 laps of the feature to take the win. Tim Ford was second, Don Famer third, Evan Long fourth and Gary Johnson fifth.
Leading from flag-to-flag Chris DeFore won his second Pony feature of the season Friday night. DeFore was shadowed for all 15 laps of the feature by Scott Ledford who would ultimately settle for second. Grady Stokes was third, Ralph Langston was fourth and Greg Callahan fifth.
David Beam topped the Econo Bombers for his third win of the season. When the checkered flag fell Tom Peters, John Bingor, Jeff Jacobs and John Morrison followed him across the line.
Next Friday night the fans at North Georgia will be treated to a full racing program. A strong contingent of Super Late Models will be on hand as will Limited/Crate Late Models, Hobby, Pony and Econo Bombers.
