Weaver Cops North Georgia Late Model Special

CHATSWORTH, Ga. (April 18) Randy Weaver started out his weekend on a high note as the Crossville, Tennessee driver out ran a stellar field of Late Models to capture the rain delayed Late Model Special at North Georgia Speedway Friday night. On his way to his first win of the 2008 season Weaver out ran the defending North Georgia Speedway champion Gary McPherson and held off the determined trio of Jakes Knowles, Joe Armes and Ronnie Johnson on his way to a $3,000 payday.

McPherson took the early lead followed by Knowles, Kevin Gibson, Armes and Weaver. McPherson and Knowles would battle for the lead early while Weaver moved from fifth to third in the first 10 laps. Weaver took advantage of the lead battle going from third to first on lap 14.

While the lead five were battling and changing positions Ronnie Johnson and Tony Knowles were on the move from midway in the pack. On lap 24 Johnson would move into the top five and start working on McPherson who was running in fourth. Three laps later Johnson moved into fourth and then took third from Armes six laps later. He would follow Weaver and J. Knowles across the stripe as the checkered flag flew. Armes and T. Knowles would round out the top five.

Rounding out the top 10 were McPherson, Gibson, David Payne, Riley Hickman and Robert Gant.

Chatsworth Georgia's Scott Jackson took on all comers and came out on top scoring his first Limited/Crate Late Model win of the season. While Jackson was leading every lap the battle for second between Allen Green and Chip Brindle was fast and furious. Green and Brindle would move into second and third on the third circuit. Bridle would take second from Green on lap eight and hold it for one lap before Green retook the spot.

Green would hold second at the stripe with Brindle, Phillip Anderson and Doug Kilgore finishing third through fifth.

Taking the lead from Jeff Kile 10 laps into the 15-lap Hobby feature Greg Ledford never looked back until he was in victory lane. Marshall Williams was second, Charles Blackwell third, Kile held on for fourth and Donnie Farmer was fifth.

Chris DeFore led all but one lap, the 10th, to take the Pony feature win. Runner up Jon Smith was all over the leader and lead the10th lap, but couldn't find the winning combination. Danny Burnett was third, Jimmy Elliott fourth and Ralph Lampton fifth.

In Econo Bomber action Tom Darby took the win over Tom Peters, Donnie Price, John Bingor and Bruce Lanning.

This Friday night North Georgia Speedway will feature the Hobby Mid-Season Championship plus racing in all divisions including Late Models.
