Williams And Asberry Victorious At Crossville Raceway

Crossville, TN (May 2nd) - Crossville Raceway USA was back in action on Friday night with a regular racing program. Starting off the night was qualifying, and in the Late Model Class it was Crossville's #95 Brandon Williams setting fast time with a lap of 13.574. At the start of the 25-lap feature #11 Rodney Hamby and #47 Jim Gray got together down the backstretch, bringing out a caution and ending both drivers' nights. On the restart, Williams was challenged by his uncle, #96 Sam Williams, but by lap two he had pulled away from the rest of the field. Williams went on to take the easy win, Sam Williams was second, #25 Lynn Selby third, #8 Trent Mullinax fourth, and #3r Robert Edward (last weeks winner), wounded out the top five.
#76 Michael Asberry swept the night's action in the UMP Open Wheel Modified Division, as he set fast time (13.622), and led all 25 laps in the feature for his second win of the year. #56 Billy Jones had a strong run for second, #36 Billy Palmer was third, #B4 Joey Whittenburg fourth, and #2 Ricky Tinch rounded out the top five in his first race in an Open Wheel.
Spart'a #20x Mike Selby made it two straight, as he held off and blocked a very determined #5Jesse Lowe for the entire 15-lap feature, for his second win in as many weeks. Third went to #11x Chris Croinex, fourth was #9 John ROss and #99 Ricky Scruggs rounded out the top five. Selby won the heat race.
The Mini Mod Class saw Kingston's #38 Brad "Hollywood" Hamilton hold off #36 Bryan Gregory (last weeks winner), in both the heat race and the 12-lap feature, for the wins. Third was #65 Todd Spivey, #1 Jason Todd was fourth, and #8 Derrick Hutchings rounded out the top five.
In the ever exciting Pure Mini Class it was #16r Robert Stone and #18 Dustin Cansler (14 yrs.old), winning the heat races to set the front row for the feature. The 12-lap feature started and Cansler powered into the lead. There was pretty good racing behing Cansler, as drivers kept swapping positions each lap. Cansler seemed to be easily on the way to his first win of the year, but he lost a wheel just after taking the white flag. This handed the lead to Crossville's Stone, who drove to his second win of the year. Second was #j27 J.D. Rector (last weeks winner), third was #11 Andy Wilson, #83 Raymond Manning was fourth, and #0 Scott Webb rounded out the top five.
The Cruiser Class saw Crossville's #11 Hannah Proffitt/Sam Proffitt go three for three on the year, as the took the checkers once again. #02 Tim Roach/Jason Sharp was second, and #54 Michael Cantrell/Jason Powell was third.
Crossville Raceway runs every Friday night for exciting dirt track racing action. With six exciting classes of racers, as well as special events and promotions to make the fans part of the action, Crossville raceway is an excellent family entertainment value. Friday May 9, is "Nickel Night for Kids". All the kids in the grandstand will be invited to come on down, onto the track for a hunt for nickels. The track officials will be spreading nickels on the front straightaway, and the kids will have a free for all retrieving the loot.
