Knoxville, TN (March 10th, 2008) Memorial Day weekend will definitely be a target weekend for Dirt Late Model drivers and enthusiasts on May 23rd and 24th, 2008. With the addition of a $4,000 to win event at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA on Friday night May 23rd added to the existing $4,000 to win event on Saturday night May 24th at Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, NC - Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series drivers will now have a shot at their share of over $35,000 in total prize money for the double-header being dubbed Memorial Mayhem Weekend.
Boyd’s Speedway is under the new ownership of Jerry and Richard Harvey and have named late model racing veteran Gar Dickson as General Manager and announcing veteran Steve Milling as Track Announcer - PR Director. The track is currently undergoing a major renovation project and is scheduled to open some time in spring as a Friday night venue.
Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, North Carolina has seen consecutive years of steady growth under Track Promoter Steve Morris. The Memorial Day special has become an annual event on the Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series schedule and will be the series’ fourth overall visit to the Tar Heel State clay oval.
In the meantime the 2008 season opener to kick off the fourth overall season for The Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series will be the previously rained out 10th Annual Spring Thaw at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN on Friday and Saturday March 21st and 22nd which will pay $10,000 to win.
Tazewell Speedway’s event on Sunday March 9th was also cancelled due to inclement weather and a new date is expected to be announced in the very near future.
